one of the best gifts to kids

I was conjuring up the past while I thought of treating my nieces a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland. Usually, when you are a small kid, your parents will throw a party in either McDonald’s or Jollibee. It sometimes turns out to be a get together of your parents and their friends. You had no idea what really was going to happen. It’s purely fun!

If you lived in the 70s and 80s, most likely you would celebrate it at your home. Traditionally, the party comes with balloons, cakes, toys, uncles, aunts, cousins and playmates. How many among you remember all the gifts you received when you were still a kid?

We usually remember the best gifts we received on our birthdays and during Christmas.

I honestly don’t remember any gift I received when I celebrated my 4th birthday (if I may still thought) until I saw some sephia pictures. I was wearing a basketball jersey with #4 and was blowing the candles. But then again, I couldn’t recall a single gift I opened during that moment. I can only remember few toys. But I can’t remember the occasion. These are the presents I received from my “ninongs”. One was the armalite gun I received from Ninong Ompong (who is also my older cousin) who then was a Philippine Navy. The other one was from Ninong Boy, brother of my dad, who gave me a battery-operated metal cast army tank.

I realized then that my ex-girlfriend’s mom was somehow right. A trip to a place where kids will never forget even when they grow older. The experience will never stop from leaving the place and instead continue to remember when you see the photos taken during the holiday.

I am still single and have no kids yet so I got this little idea and delighted my nieces to a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland and Ocean Park. It was probably one of the tiring holidays I have had. But indeed it’s worth the trip. While they’re enjoying school break, I have started helping them learn and observe about the places from other country. They maybe even smart enough to see the culture and the means of the people. They may even remember in the future how great it was to ride on the plane for the first time and to hop on trains going to our destinations without asking me where we are going.

I know that in the future my nieces will always remember the moments we shared together during this trip. As I get older, I will also reminisce how happy I am (and will always be) to have shared them the fruits of some blessings that God has given me during these times.

My advice? If you parents are able, try saving your money from buying your kids fancy and expensive clothes and toys. Instead, you invest in treating them in good places that they will always remember and will talk about with when they grow old.
