Have you already watched the guided tour video of iPhone? The first time I watched the video on my MBP (or MacBook Pro) I almost wanted to throw away my Palm Treo 650 that I have been using for more than 2 years already. I have no complain about my Treo 650. In fact, I saved money more than anyone I know who upgrades Nokia phone every year. I said to myself that I will never use a Nokia mobile phone again after having tried the Treo 650. I was one of the first consumers who bought Nokia 5110 (color yellow) back then. But I find iPhone as a perfect business partner (if I called Treo 650 as my personal buddy in one of my multiply accounts).
It is not the first time that Apple did such a revolutionary product in similar category. When Steve Jobs was out of then Cupertino campus and spending more time meditating somewhere and walking along the beach in Paris and perhaps had no idea that he would have the opportunity to building Next Computer and eventually became the iCEO of Apple with a prize of a personal jet plane.
When the PDA category did not exist yet, former Apple CEO John Sculley enabled a project that they thought would reinvent the personal computing. Apple preloaded various applications to fulfill its objective to introduce “Newton” in 1993. Unfortunately, just like any product (such as Viagra, that was originally intended to be a medicine for headache or hypertension??), it has become what we call now PDA or personal digital assistant. In 1997, Apple discontinued the production of Newton.
On January 9, 2007, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced iPhone at Macworld as the revolutionary phone. The Apple developers and other third party software groups were pressured on the deadline that Steve announced. Meaning, iPhone must be in the market in June 2007. It could have been the next generation of Newton as both PDA and mobile phone.
Anyway, what I like about the iPhone is that it is best gadget ever invented in this generation. You may thought it is iPod. Others may thought it is the Blackberry. What about putting altogether the iPod, PDA, and even an info-machine (like the ATM machine)? I usually carry both my Treo 650 and iPod video 60gb. But with the iPhone, you have both. You can even dock it to your Apple Hi-Fi as how you do in your iPod. I also like the advance features of the headphone (check it out even if you don’ care about it).
I can’t wait to own one. Unit price starts at USD500.00. Sadly, it will arrive in Asia and in the Philippines in December 2007, as I heard.
Now you will find your existing phones Jurassic once you see the features of iPhone.
Snap specs I like in iPhone.
1. There is no option to use a stylus. It’s godly a touch controlled toy.
2. The size is perfect in my palm. No to as small as Nokia 6510 or any pocket pc like HP iPaq.
3. Applications are fully relevant. I like the maps and address book.
4. Dockable. No need to bring up 2 gadgets to my room. iPhone is compatible with my Apple Hi-Fi set-up on my side table.
5. It maintains the look of iChat (familiar only to Mac users like me). Message thread is very important to someone like me who tracks all conversation and look at it as a documentation. iChat is alive in iPhone.
6. Wi-Fi ready. The net is in my pocket. I can instantly check my emails and browse the web without the need of bringing my 15″ MBP.
From looking back in 1987 when CMTS (cellular mobile telephone system) was first commercialized to the Newton that was never perceived as PDA but it was, for me iPhone revolutionizes in this generation not only as a phone but as a tablet. It could be the next blue pill in the new technology.
