What do you think will be Bush’s last major decision?
I forwarded the news from the future about the US auto industry to few friends on October 30, 2008. I have been following Wolfgang Grulke’s forecast since I bought his book “10 lessons from the future” from Borders Bookstore in Torrance Blvd., Torrance, California in the year 2001.
I think I mentioned in one of my blogs how captivating Mr. Grulke’s business and technology forecast. On page 44 of the book, Grulke had handwritten what perceived in the personal computer history. In 1970s, computer was very “unthinkable” and compared to a small-headed quadrupedal herbivorous dinosaur of the Jurassic period until Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak founded Apple II personal computer after it had been revolutionized by Altair 8800. In the 80s, the “emerging” industry had reached to the cloning of the personal computer at low cost by Asian manufacturers. Then in the 90s, I realized I was one of the naïve electronic enthusiasts brainwashed by the book Digital Design by Mano and other computer engineering books that made us believed that PC was invented by IBM. To be a practically competent engineering student, I had to master the hardware architecture and had to learn how to assemble, disassemble and troubleshoot the PC besides giving myself a hard time learning Microsoft’s DOS. In 2001, the year “10 lessons from the future” was published in Great Britain, Grulke added that PC will be “ubiquitous”. The next attribute in the PC industry will be “wireless”. And it will be in the year 2005. What happened then? In 2005, WIFI started to slide in more until it had spread widely within the business and industrial nodes in 2007.
Going back to the news from the future, Grulke released that on January 4, 2009, GM, Chrysler and Ford will be nationalized. US President George Bush will make his last major decision before he turns the throne to Barack Obama. Bush’s announcement will create another disturbance in Wall Street. The US government will prop up the three major car companies. It will be the next big noise after bailing out financial companies in 2008. The US lost the industry to the Chinese. German car firms are to announce the plan on the relocation of production to China. What will happen to Detroit?
The prolonged recession in the US will be the result of the collapse of the auto industry according to a Nobel-winning economist. Unlike the banking crisis, the cause in the auto industry might affect the Philippine economy. The Laguna-based workers and these auto companies’ employees may not be aware of this but I think the government must have a proactive move to counteract on this foreseen news. Someone from the house or congress must read my note, if they can’t afford to search Grulke. ☺
Astonishingly, a week after I emailed the news about the US auto industry, I saw in the CNN that Ford is asking for government assistance which in return to granting stock or stock warrants. Ford posts 3 billion US dollars operating loss and cuts more than 2,500 workers. Then later on the number 1 automaker GM reported a huge loss and is almost out of cash. It will sound a solemn warning to everyone that after George Bush will make his last major decision, the momentum of this particular problem will be turned over to the next US President Barack Obama. In the meantime, I will continue to share Grulke’s assessment and forecast while I give my opinion to other news from the future that I collected. Anyone interested what will happen in the music industry in the next five years? Shoot me an email.
