When Old iPhone Is Better Than New

I am still using the first generation of iPhone I got on September 7, 2007. I decided to skip owning the iPhone 3G because I didn’t really see how I can maximize the speed and function at the same time while the infrastructure in the Philippines is still yet to be compared to like in Hong Kong and in Singapore.

How do you use your mobile phones? You may be using your mobile phones in 3 regular ways – text, call, and to take pictures. Owning an iPhone 3G or equivalent without maximizing the functions of it may be like someone who wears the perfect surfing outfit with complete accessories and surfboard but does not know how to challenge the waves in La Union, Zambales, or North Shore.

Here are the top apps I personally use with my old iPhone:

1. Mail – POP, it is. MobileMe keeps my emails in the cloud. So is my gmail.
2. Twitterrific – syncing my messages with all my social media accounts through Twitter
3. Facebook – making sure I’m updated with my friends’ status and news
4. SMS – the usual text thingy
5. Phone – mostly incoming and outgoing calls to office and clients
6. Safari – SMS, Phone and Safari may fall at the same rank
7. Calendar – though I don’t really input all appointments here. It’s all in my brain.
8. Weather – I regularly check the weather of the cities in my list and these are Cupertino, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Manila, and Tagaytay
9. Camera – I take pictures of catchy objects including my bad hair cut
10. Clock – I check if it is really 15 minutes more advanced than my watch. oh, I also need the alarm
11. Maps – when I’m in the U.S.
12. Notes – especially if the subject is very important like the words I hear in our church
13. Games – Fastlane it is.
14. YouTube – to check some funny videos
15. Y! Messenger/Meebo – when I’m in the middle of the event with free WiFi
16. iPod – I use this only when I leave my old iPod video in my car

Wanna buy my old iPhone? I will wait until the new iPhone comes hopefully to be released this year. Maybe in June, in WWDC 2009. ☺
